Love these lazy Sundays. We wake up in the morning and head for "church" which to us means something we truly believe in - the bounty of nature and diversity among neighbors. Axel makes his usual market stops - I make mine - and with Ollie tagging along we pass time in the sun just wandering.
Flowers today. $5 worth of happy. Most days that's all it takes. Had a chance to sew today. Something other than orders. I followed my own advice on the "if you see something you really love but want to make...but it...you won't recreate it without an example." Last week at Sassy Knit Wear in South Minneapolis I bought a pair of "play pants" for Ollie. There aren't enough companies that make kids play clothes. I personally hate wearing jeans in the house...I imagine the kids do as well. Winging the patterns - from $20 worth of fabric I have produced 5 pairs of pants and 2 shirts. When I asked Axel if he would like me to make him a pair (I had made 3 for Ollie at that point) his eyes completely lit up and he said, "Oh yes. You never make anything for me. I will love them even if they don't turn out. I loved even those dirty rats you gave me for Christmas last year." Wow. Did I give him dirty rats? Or rather is that what he perceived I gave him (or worse...tells his friends at school that I gave him)? This is a clear sign that I need to be more intentional in making him special things. He has been talking about the 20-minute-pants I made him all day. He wants to wear them everywhere. I then had to make a shirt to match (which didn't turn out so well but will be fabulous as jammies). Wearing aforementioned play pants the boys picked the first of our pumpkins. Axel thought they were "all his," Oliver was convinced that they were projectiles and I tried not to yell. Tried. Hope your Sunday went spectacular. Back to school tomorrow. Darn.

Attempt #2 at this weeks vlog. Accidentally deleted the first from my iPad. Hope y'all are having a great Thirty Thursday. You are all in for a treat this week. I had a little extra time on my hands so the kids and I made y'all a music video in honor of Thirty Thursday. As always, my theatrical Axel was on board completely. He thought it was so funny the first thing out of his mouth was, "We need to show that to Grandma Alice. It would make her happy." Such a darling. As you'll notice, like all good music videos I have the three necessary things: groupies, a great jam and gold chains. This was easier than I thought...might be a new hobby. One correction: the artist "Lorde" isn't English...she's from New Zealand. I didn't have it in me to re-record. Check out my awesome friend Kenz! She's right there...no, over there...to your right...on my side bar! Kenz is the first friend to advertise on my page (not unsolicited however...she's been my ad guru...mentor...and I'm so excited to have met her).
Click on her. Go ahead. Do it! You'll love her blog. Want to join her sweet self? Go to my advertise page, order yourself an ad (use the coupon code for half price) and your logo/link will be on my side bar for 30 days. Sweet. Thanks lady. What a fun night last night in Gold Medal Park. Seriously one of our favorite downtown "can't live without" parks. The spiral walking path, the stone-arch bridge, the Guthrie and Izzy's Ice Cream. On a nice fallish night all you need is a little MPLS (Minneapolis) to get you feeling energized.
Did you know that you can visit one of the observation decks inside the Guthrie whenever the building is open? While the endless bridge on the 4th floor was hosting a private party last night, we were still able to take the elevator up to 9 and check out the view through the iconic yellow glass. Look in four directions - even look down. It's a room with a view for sure! There's still time to catch up if you've missed episodes 1 and 2 of Thirty Thursday. Have a suggestion of what you'd like to see next week? Would you like me to review a product? All you need to do is ask. Enjoy your Thursday this week and remember - it's always ok to sit in your bathtub fully clothed. PS - I have got to get the thumbnail thing figured out. I look positively scary in these. CLICK PLAY RIGHT AWAY so you don't have to look at the image below. I love designing school lunch! Wait. Re-phrase that. I LOVE making lunch for AXEL, the best eater in the world.
While kids across America are eating the typical PB&J (I could be wrong), I get to send anything BUT in my kids lunch bag. How is he such a wholesome eater? I haven't a clue. It started somewhere between olives and avocados. Today's lunch, while not my most creative, features Axel's new favorite find – Frozen Pomegranate seeds from Target. Affordable luxury, extremely healthy. So far this week his lunchbox has held "personal pasta salad," Jimmy Johns sub (provolone, guacamole and all the fixins), greek yogurt, banana bread (which he made himself before school), fruits, veggies and the occasional Peanut Butter and Honey sandwich (preferably on artisan bread). I should really consider packing my own lunch and not eating in front of the refrigerator door. :( The paper crane is for luck. Welcome back to Thirty Thursday. I have yet to figure out how to convince YouTube to choose more attractive thumbnails for my videos. I mean really? Do they purposely choose the worst shots for the "cover"? Anyhow. I hope you all are having a great week, one filled with great friends and mediocre wine. Sometimes I play seamstress to my family and other times I get a request of magical proportions.
The tooth fairy put in an order for me a while ago for 3 pillows – three special kiddos who are future "toothless wonders." They turned out so darling and I'd like to let her know that she can come and get her order whenever she wants. Of course I could always send the pillows with my trusty assistant – but she spends more time at the YMCA these days than at work. ;) ![]() This is the way we go to school... Can't believe I just dropped Axel off for 9-4. He was crawling out of his skin with excitement. As you can see he even posed for a picture which is nearly impossible. Lunch packed, flower picked for his teacher (this kid is headed for politics) and one short scooter ride was all it took for start an awesome year of kindergarten. When we arrived at the school this morning things were a little different from how I remembered Kindergarten to be. If you wanted to walk your kid to their room v you had to check in at the office (super long line for this), they scan your photo ID and turn it into a name badge which will allow you to enter the building. Of course I didn't have my drivers license...the thought never crossed my mind. Axel said, "It's ok Mom, you just leave me at the door." I was determined to walk him in though, after all, by the time Oliver goes to school you'll probably have to leave a blood sample to get in...or it just won't be allowed - period. So, in rule-breaking fashion, I noticed a parent leaving the building. Before the door could slam shut behind him I stuck the front wheel of the stroller in the door and I was in like flynn. Classic. Axel knew just what to do. He was right. He didn't need me to walk him in...that part was just for me. |
