While Ollie and I were painting it up last weekend, Jahred, Axel and my in-laws were hard at work updating our kitchen floor. We chose Hickory, a hardwood with lots of color variation. I couldn't be more thankful for their hard work as we can now make emergency runs from the tree house to the bathroom without worrying about carpet. Thought it would be the perfect opportunity to show off my new Dansko shoes as well. LOVE THEM. They are sooo "me." ![]() *Revised I forgot to mention earlier today that while tearing apart our kitchen to install the flooring, we found this Christmas card underneath the counter. There's no year posted, but Brad, Lori, Paul and M? sure are a swell looking bunch. Love the Zubaz! Classic. I try to learn a lesson each day, and that day I learned: Never send out a Christmas card you would be embarrassed to see after 25 years trapped below a counter. Wish I had a return address, I would send them a note...hoping to find them well, and better dressed.

This weekend, my mom and her friends threw a party for their dear friend Jayne who is celebrating another anniversary of her 29th birthday. I got to play a part in the planning of this event and man was it fun! The theme...paint/collage/sangria and more paint. A picture is worth a thousand words – at least. The key to pulling off an aesthetically beautiful painting party? Vintage painting drop-cloths re-purposed as tablecloths for a rustic appeal, beret hats for sass, satin ribbon for luxury, fire for ambiance, and friends for inspiration. Not bad for a bunch of ladies who say they're NOT artistic. Glad Oliver made the photo...at the ripe hour of 11:00 he was just getting started.
We woke up this morning to a sparkling surprise! Snow! The first snow, like the last snow of the year always strikes me as beautiful...it's clean (covering up ugly brown fall/spring) and you don't have to shovel. When I woke Axel up to show him the surprise, the first thing out of his mouth was, "This is Ollie's FIRST snow!" Wow, I can't believe I was thinking about shoveling when we had someone in our house who was about to have a "first ever." With little wardrobe thought, we were out of the house in 5 minutes flat. Eating a banana and a fiber bar on the way to school Axel asked, "Can we pull over and let the snow come in our windows?" That's just what we did. I can't think of a single reason why being on time to school is more important than someones first snow of their whole life! (Please excuse the low-light early morning photos.) Minnesota Christened by snow. This made me laugh so hard that yesterdays mascara started to run. What made him want to put it on his head?
Finished with the deck...now back to Menards to spend the rest of my counter-top money. It comes down to this: I will NEVER say that I "enjoy" my counter-tops, but Axel will only be old enough to thoroughly enjoy a fort for a limited time! Be back soon...
Today we're building a tree house (without the actual tree) for our favorite 4-year-old. He deserves a special space all of his own (which of course he will beg us to share). Stay tuned for hourly updates...
The last couple weekends were rather smooshed together as we were home for only 2 days in between. Here's what we've been doing. Axels been fishin'. Ollies been hangin' out. Daddy built an awesome shelf for my jeans...since I have a hanger "hang-up." We enjoyed a day at the Mill City Museum and took this photo of Minneapolis from the observation deck of the old flour mill. Axel was on the front page of the paper (blue jacket in fire boat). "Do you want me to cut it out and you can hang it on your magnet board?"
"NO, because then it wouldn't be in the paper anymore." Makes sense – completely. |
