Need some DIY boy room inspiration? Nothing says re-do like a 1950's rambler with "grandma style!" When we moved in, besides the dated window treatments we were the lucky owners of solid hardwood floors (covered of course in the cursed WHITE CARPET). This room has been screaming DIY since the first Sharpie hit the floor! Our mission? Complete this room while Axel was at school, use mostly what we had lying around the house and spend no more than $150. Mission accomplished.
First things first. Out with the rug. Taking our carpet is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3. 1. Find a partner. 2. Tell him to bring a wonder bar and pliers. 3. Let him loose. No really. It practically rolls itself up and all you need to do are pry up the tack strips and pull a few staples used to hold in the padding. Our floors happen to be GORGEOUS! I'm so thankful! We removed all traces of the old window treatments and filled the nail holes. We painted. Martha Stewart paint (from the Home Depot). 1 gallon + 1 quart. Ikea provided the new curtain rods at the price of $16 each. I had the curtain fabric lying around (you'll notice that they don't match...nor are they required to). Old black frames (unused at the moment) were turned into an art showcase for some of Axels masterpieces. The magnet board was reused from our last house (is in fact an oil pan from Walmart). All furniture was brought in from other rooms where it wasn't being used effectively and the only thing left to do was clean. Hope this inspires you to do a $150 (or less) DIY boy room. Axel loves it - I'm jealous that his walls have fresh paint - Jahred is glad we only have 1 room left with carpet to pull up.
