Coincidences can be creepy, they can also be a pleasant surprise. Two weeks ago as we were driving to the Boundary Waters we were killing time on the 5+ hour car ride and rambling about good times and houses past. I happened to remember out loud that our favorite old neighbors – from Mankato – 5 years ago – the Hunters had a daughter who moved to northern Minnesota, "Remember them, they were such nice neighbors." "Yeah, they were," Jahred agreed.
Not five minutes later we were cruising up HWY 61 at 55mph when I looked up from my cell phone and closed my mouth for 1 second to look out the window. There, alongside the highway, looking over the bridge at the Temperance River were THE HUNTERS! "Stop the car!" "Susan," I yelled through an open window. We pulled over and reunited with our old neighbors over 6 hours from either of our homes. Had I not looked out at that precise moment it would have never happened. Had I not been thinking about them just moments before I'm not sure that I would have recognized them. The pre-teen kid that we remembered is now a junior in college and about 2 feet taller than he was when we last saw them. There was NO REASON we should have run into them like that. Coincidence? I just got done reading the most incredible book (book review to follow tomorrow) and got to thinking about the history of my own house. What is the story behind the previous owners who built this home and lived here for 55+ years. I remembered the drawing one of the kids found beneath our breakfast counter a few months ago. Today I thought I'd share that drawing with you so I crawled beneath to take a picture. Ok...I know it's drawn by a kid...but I still think it's disturbing. Today what I noticed about the drawing is that it was dated. Kind of strange for a kid to date their drawing...not to mention even know what the date is at 10pm when the pic was supposedly drawn. "Drawn by Ashli Kacalek on August 19..." August 19 is our anniversary. Were we destined to own this house? Creepy coincidence?
